The Undisputed “Godfather of Noise has redefined the art of beat boxing.
RAHZEL has perfectly mastered this quintessential musical art form and has emerged as a “true virtuoso”. Rahzel is able to recreate full songs without instrumentation, sing a chorus and provide the musical melody simultaneously and is able to invoke impressions of any sound on a whim… Now that is incredible!
Rahzel does not play an instrument, HE IS THE INSTRUMENT!
Billboard Magazine proclaims:
“Everyone should experience his fascinating rhythms… using just his lips, cheeks, gums and Adam’s apple.” He recreates with amazing accuracy and detail. His mockery of instrumentals and arcades of sounds have left audiences captivated, wondering “is he for real”?
Rahzel made his triumphant debut performance at the legendary Showtime at the Apollo. He stunned the crowd with a repertoire that stroked the memory of any true hip hop fan and the world’s toughest audience loved him. Rahzel has since been officially inducted as an “Apollo Legend”. With this honor, he joins the ranks of our nation’s most beloved artists.
Rahzel is best known as a member of hip hop’s cutting edge live band, The Roots. “As a member of The Roots, it enhanced my vocal abilities as a musician”, he says. As part of The Roots, Rahzel has earned a Grammy Award. Might we add, Rahzel is the first human beat box to receive such a prestigious award since Bobby Mcferrin. He made his solo debut on the eagerly anticipated, Make the Music 2000, a smorgasbord of almost every music genre featuring Brandford Marsalis, Erykah Badu, Me’Shell N’Degeocello, A Tribe Called Quest, Aaron Hall, The Roots and the legendary Slick Rick. On the album he also has a special tribute to the late Aaliyah, which has become a cult classic throughout the world. Rahzel’s most current amazing works can be heard on his latest mix CD, The Greatest Knockouts Vol. 1 and the soon to be released: The Greatest Knockouts Vol. 2.
A glance at Rahzel’s musical influences speaks to his appreciation for the art of making music. He draws from the line of Bobby Mcferrin, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Take 6, Zap Mama (7), Doug E. Fresh, the Fat Boys, Biz Markie and Michael Winslow (Police Academy). He explains: “As a vocal percussionist, I want to bridge the gap among various musical genres” and yes, Rahzel has done just that. “I can honestly say that world has a greater respect for the beat box as a true art form.”
Although he reveals an appreciation of various musical genres, his pedigree and inevitable destiny is rooted in hip hop.
Growing up as a youngster in Hollis, Queens, birthplace of (Run DMC, Salt and Pepa and LL Cool J) and having hip hop royalty in his blood, Rahzel admired his cousin Rahiem, a founding member of one of the most influential raps groups in hip hop history, the legendary Grand Master flash & the Furious Five. “I remember watching The Furious Five before I could even see over the gate, having that influence was incredible,” recalls Rahzel. “In every important phase of hip hop I was there absorbing everything that has become what hip hop is today.”
Far from being camera shy, Rahzel is currently entertaining millions of households in a national commercial for Pepsi Cola and was featured in a national commercial for Twix cookie bars. Rahzel is a virtual favorite as Verizon’s “Beat Box Mixer,” the first of its kind website that is a cutting edge cross between a music video, a video game and a drum machine. Being the first host of its kind, Rahzel has been the sought out by T-Mobile and Scion to host their major events across the country. Particular favorites are The John Legend Tour sponsored by Kool, his explosive performance with The Roots to a sold out audience at Radio City Music Hall sponsored by Verizon, Rock Corp Concert with Nick Cannon, Nelly, T.I., Kelis, and Young Jeezy sponsored by Boost Mobile also at Radio City Music Hall and performances at Lincoln Center.
As the beat goes on, no pun intended, Rahzel has done the impossible again by teaming up with Mike Patton (former lead singer of Faith No More) to create the critically acclaimed band Peeping Tom. The album includes the hit song “MOJO” featuring Rahzel and Dan the Automator (Gorilla’s). Peeping Tom is currently on an international tour opening for The Who and Gnarles Barkley.
Rahzel made his big screen debut in “The Blues- A Musical Journey,” a film by Martin Scorsese and a BET favorite, “Preaching to the Choir” with Patti Labelle, Tichina Arnold and Eartha Kitt and contributing writing credits to the soundtrack with Nona Hendryx. He became a familiar face on MTV as a host of “Hip Hop Week” and has lent his many vocal talents to Monc Blanc, American Express Blue, EA Sports’ video games’- NBA Live 2000, 2004 and SSX Tricky. this was really worth the moment:

Rahzel has received six Grammy Nominations, certificates for collaborations with such artists as Sean Paul, The Roots, Toots and the Mayatals and Björk.
Rahzel recalls, “not having was never an excuse for not doing”. Just as in its most organic state, “the essence of hip hop is making something out of nothing”. Rahzel learned how to feed his need to be creative. “We couldn’t bring turntables inside the locker room and we couldn’t bring our boom box in to the school.” To provide rhythms for aspiring rappers, either you became skilled at the banging on the gym lockers or you became skilled at making music with your mouth. “I’m a perfectionist, so if you were to close your eyes, you would think that you were hearing a record, a radio or a live instrument.”
The Incredible RAHZEL not only occupies a hallowed position in the world of hip hop but is also the human embodiment of a musical tradition, becoming a vocal phenomenon and inspiration throughout the world. A master performer, he has either produced, written and/ or has been featured on ten platinum and gold albums.
